Clean Scapes provided softscape, hardscape, and irrigation for this vibrant 11-acre green space in the heart of downtown Austin. Special care was given to the management of invasive species and the installation of thousands of native plants to further bolster the local ecosystems.
During construction, large elevation changes across the site limited access and required significant retaining walls, soil stabilization and erosion control measures. Regular soil testing ensured the 7+ custom soil blends and profiles layered throughout the site were installed to the designers’ precise specifications. Cranes were used to fly over a dozen trees to hard to reach areas of the site, as well as to install the custom granite slide in the playground area.
Now, more than 1.5 miles of tree-lined trails guide visitors through the lush park and focus visitors’ attention on the Moody Amphitheater, where rain water captured in a cistern is filtered through three newly installed rain gardens near the adjacent Waller Creek Tunnel Inlet Facility, further protecting the creek’s natural flow, improving water quality, and reducing the risk of flooding and erosion. This beloved new urban oasis is already a successful Austin landmark, hosting a wide range of experiences for play, leisure, and immersive urban ecology.
