Clean Scapes ranked 40th on the 2016 Lawn & Landscape Top 100 list, which was published in May and sponsored by Toro.

“To be included on the Top 100 list is a high honor. This list is very exclusive – only a small percentage of landscapers can make it – and brings with it a great responsibility,” says Lawn & Landscape Editor and Associate Publisher Chuck Bowen. “Because of their size and stature in the industry, these 100 companies act as ambassadors of the landscape profession to homeowners and commercial property managers across the country. They continue to exhibit all the things that make the landscape industry great: dedication, drive and a desire to make the world a better place.”

The Lawn & Landscape Top 100 is based on 2015 revenue from landscape profit centers, and is reported by each company listed. Companies on the Top 100 list earned total revenue in 2015 of $8,445,782,868. That’s $403,225,109 more than in 2014 – an increase of 5 percent. Companies on the list reported total employment (seasonal plus year-round employees) of 83,971 people. The list comprises 96 companies in 30 states and four firms in Canada.

“It’s an honor to sponsor this annual ranking of landscape contractors who are true leaders in their field,” adds David Alkire, Vice President, Residential and Landscape Contractor Businesses, at The Toro Company. “These companies are innovators. They never stop looking for better ways to overcome challenges and make the most of their opportunities. We share that hardworking spirit and it’s part of what makes us proud to support the landscape industry.”

Carli Hinkle <![CDATA[“It’s My Park” Day at the Radisson Hotel]]> 2016-04-11T19:02:18Z 2016-04-11T19:02:18Z Last week, members of our Clean Scapes team and the Radisson hotel staff joined forces to celebrate the Radisson’s annual “It’s My Park” day. Volunteers spent the afternoon filling the flower beds with new plants and mulch, raking leaves and picking up trash in the area behind the hotel at Caesar Chavez and Congress. We had a great time helping out our friends at the Radisson and look forward to cleaning up some of our other properties next week for Earth Day!

Carli Hinkle <![CDATA[It’s Time to Aerate!]]> 2016-02-26T15:53:51Z 2016-02-19T14:37:50Z Now is the perfect time to aerate your turf! Aeration can be an extremely vital element to a healthy lawn because it allows air and water to penetrate built-up grass or lawn thatch.

The main reason for aerating is to alleviate soil compaction. Compacted soils have too many solid particles in a certain volume or space, which prevents proper circulation of air, water and nutrients within the soil. Excess lawn thatch or heavy organic debris buried under the grass surface can also starve the roots from these essential elements.

Aeration can make your lawn healthier and reduce its maintenance requirements. Benefits of aeration include:

 • Reduced water wastage
 • Helps lawn breathe
 • Clears thatch build-up
 • Improved overall lawn health
 • Stronger turfgrass roots
 • Enhanced heat and drought stress tolerance

Fire ants are usually less active during the dry winter months, but you may see mounds reforming following winter rains or days over 70 degrees. With the unseasonably warm winter we have had, ants are taking advantage of solar radiation from the concrete and moisture from irrigation run-off.

Treating mounds with an insecticide like Top Choice during the winter is the most effective method to rid them from your property. Bait products are not recommended due to the fact that ants are not foraging for food. An insecticide needs to be applied evenly at two pounds per every 1000 square feet, and must be applied by a licensed applicator.

For more information on ant prevention please give us a call at 512.448.1094.

By partnering with the City of Austin and Central Texas Clean Cities, an organization aimed to advance the nation’s economic, environmental, and energy security by supporting local decisions to adopt practices that reduce petroleum consumption. CTCC is one of 80 volunteer coalitions that develop public and private partnerships to promote alternative fuels and vehicles, fuel blends, fuel economy, hybrid vehicles, and idle reduction.

In recent years, Clean Scapes has converted our gas-powered mowers to propane. Propane mowers run cleaner, produce less harmful emissions, and decrease total fuel costs. Propane currently costs 30% to 50% less per gallon than diesel fuel and allows companies to operate their equipment on environmentally sensitive Ozone Action Days.

Clean Scapes is one of a few commercial landscape companies participating in the switch and has performed the most conversions to date in Central Texas!

Our team used 23 different plant species to build these beautiful arrangements. Of the 23 species, we included Mexican Feathergrass, Agave Parryi Truncata, and Twist Leaf Yucca due to their drought tolerant nature. The living walls can be found around the perimeter of the hotel, as well as the pool deck, located on South Congress Avenue in the heart of Austin.

Carli Hinkle <![CDATA[Fall Lawn Preparation]]> 2015-09-30T21:12:29Z 2015-09-30T21:12:29Z Although the temperatures are still high, cooler weather is just around the corner, which means it’s time to start treating your lawn with a pre-emergent herbicide.
A pre-emergent is a chemical that creates a thin barrier in the top layer of soil, helping to control the growth of weeds in an area. Fall is the best time to apply a pre-emergent because this is when weeds will begin dropping their seeds. No one wants their beautiful landscape ruined by unsightly, uncontrollable weeds!
Contact Clean Scapes today about applying a pre-emergent herbicide to your property before it’s too late!
